GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The latest heat wave can make fireworks even more dangerous. Grand Forks Police want to remind you that fireworks are illegal within city limits, even sparklers.

Any firework with more than 0.25 of a gram of powder is illegal to light, distribute or sell within two miles of city limits.

If you are found using these fireworks, there is a $101 fine and, possibly a pricier punishment, the fireworks will be confiscated.

Grand Forks Police say they get more than 100 calls every year regarding the unsafe use of fireworks in the city.

They urge to you always have water handy when using fireworks to avoid causing serious burn and eye injuries.

Never allow children to ignite fireworks, read and follow all instructions and never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.

Each year more than 3,000 children ages 14 and under are treated in emergency rooms from fireworks-related injuries.
