Most of Red River Valley Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch Tonight

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the Red River Valley including Cass and Clay counties until 7 tonight.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the Red River Valley including Cass and Clay counties until 7 tonight.

Other counties in Minnesota include Polk, Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clay, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Pennington, Marshall, Mahnomen, Norman, Red Lake, Roseau and Wadena.

North Dakota counties include Grand Forks, Barnes, Cass, Cavalier, Griggs, Nelson, Pembina, Ramsey, Steele, Traill and Walsh.

The forecast for Grand Forks this afternoon includes showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3 p.m., the weather service said. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall, and there will be a high close to 94 and a heat index as high as 102.

A thunderstorm watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms or severe thunderstorms.
