BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man with 11 prior felony convictions has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on an illegal firearms charge.

Adam Winarske, of Bismarck, was charged in federal court with possession of firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty in March.

Authorities say Bismarck police received information in June 2011 that an individual was trying to sell a stolen firearm. Police set up a sting and the 26-year-old Winarske was arrested.

Winarske's criminal record includes five burglary convictions and two convictions for corruption of a minor.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Winarske to the mandatory minimum 15-year term. Winarske faced a maximum penalty of life in prison.
