BEMIDJI - A powerful storm knocked out more power to homeowners in the region Wednesday, with hundreds affected in the Red Lake, Kelliher, Turtle Lake and Washkish areas.

The storm swept through Beltrami County around 1 p.m., with Bemidji on the southern most edge of the system.

Beltrami Electric Cooperative said the storm knocked out power to hundreds in the northern area of its service territory. The cooperative continues to restore power to those impacted by Monday night’s storm and will send crews to areas damaged Wednesday as soon as possible.

“We continue to urge those without electricity to remain patient in this trying time,” spokesman Mitch Raile said late Wednesday afternoon. “They are making progress and we hope to have most people back with power sometime tomorrow, but some will probably be out until Friday.”

Otter Tail Power has restored power to most of the approximately 4,400 customers who lost power Monday. Crews working Wednesday started the day with about 500 customers without power, and had the number down to about 50 by late afternoon.
