Aneta Family of Six Homeless After FireThe corner of one wall is all that is left of the Spicer home after a house fire in Aneta last night.
The corner of one wall is all that is left of the Spicer home after a house fire in Aneta last night. Mike and Cheri Spicer were both working when the fire started, but their four kids were home with their uncle. They say he smelled smoke and then saw that the bedroom was on fire. He was able to get the kids out before anyone got hurt.
Cheri Spicer: "Yeah, we don't have a house, we don't have anything, but we have our kids, and that's what more important to us is our kids, we got them, the house is replaceable."
By the time the Spicers got to their home it was too late to save anything.
Mike Spicer: "Watching memories, everything we own, just watch it crumble."
They say three different fire departments worked for four hours to put out the blaze, but the strong winds last night made it almost impossible to fight it."
Mike Spicer: "The fire department, bless their souls, they did what they could, but with the wind and everything, it was just out of control."
Today, the Spicers are getting some necessities and friends and family have offered them things to start building their home again.
Cheri Spicer: "our three girls didn't have jackets so we are trying to get stuff so they can have something to call their own again."
The Spicers say they are grateful for the community support and they hope to rebuild their home in Aneta.
