(WDAZ-TV) - Midway through league play, the Grand Forks Royals are tied for first, a big reason why are the two all-state players, Taylor Steen and Mitchell Anderson.

Grand Forks sports fans are used to sights like this. Taylor Steen makes the throw, mitchell anderson the catch. Steen gets the hit. Anderson the run. Four years of teaming up on the field at Red River has created a special bond for these two graduated seniors, a friendship that they say grew out of sports.

"I guess the relationship really started with freshman year football. We met each other then and it carried over into the spring and baseball. We've been playing together the last four years and it's been really fun," Steen said.

"Sports together with Steen I just really enjoy it. He helps me a lot with things, I help him a lot with things, we just chum around together during sports. We are good friends, we talk a lot, sports, hanging out, we are bros I guess," Anderson said.

"Me and Mitchell are really good friends. We get along together on and off the field. We hang out off the field, we are teammates who like to cheer everyone up and be in charge. My and Mitchell's relationship is really good," Steen said.

The duo led the Grand Forks Royals to an eighteen and seven start. With Steen playing college baseball at Indiana State next year and Anderson heading to Rochester to do the same, this season with the Royals could be their last together and they know just the way to end it.

"Our goal from the beginning has been a state championship, so that's what we want to accomplish in the next couple of weeks," Steen said.

They and the rest of the Royals still have three weeks of baseball left before the state tournament starts in Mandan at the end of the month.
