TRF City Administrator Resigns After Employees' No Confidence Vote

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - The Thief River Falls City Administrator resigned following an attempt of a no confidence vote by city employees.

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - The Thief River Falls City Administrator resigned following an attempt of a no confidence vote by city employees.

Many employees say they were bothered by the way Jodie Torkelson ran things and 69 of 73 of them approved the no confidence vote.

Just a little over a week after city employees tried to deliver the vote at a City Council meeting, Torkelson resigned.

City employee representative Mike Spears attempted to read the resolution at the last council meeting.

It states that Torkelson's management and leadership style was "abrasive, dictatorial, disrespectful, corrosive, vindictive, intimidating, adversarial, difficult and overly controlling."

Mayor Steve Nordhagen says he is disappointed in the way this was handled and that Torkelson was bullied.

Some employees say they were bothered by the administrator's management style and "micro-managing."

"It's a whole list of problems that employees haven't really been happy with the way things have been going in the city down to the City Administrator, the way she's handled things, the way she's dealt with employees," Spears said.

The next City Council meeting is next week. The council will have the chance to accept Torkelson's resignation.

Some employees say the administrator should think about things before resigning.

Calls made to Torkelson were not returned.
