Two North Dakota residents were injured in a three-vehicle accident Monday afternoon along Interstate 94 near St. Augusta, Minn.
Joseph J. Mayo, 50, Cavalier, N.D., was released Tuesday afternoon from the St. Cloud Hospital. Linda K. Mayo, 52, West Fargo, was listed in fair condition Tuesday evening, according to a nurse supervisor at that hospital.
The accident occurred at about 3:54 p.m., when an eastbound pickup driven by John P. Fischer, 49, St. Cloud, drove through a freeway fence and continued driving the wrong way in the westbound lane of I-94, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.
Patrick T. Martin, 18, Pacific Palisades, Calif., was driving a vehicle with a trailer in the westbound lane. He swerved to avoid a collision, causing the trailer to roll.
The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Fischer then collided head-on with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Joseph Mayo, according to the report.
Police reported that Fischer apparently had suffered from a medical issue, and received non-life-threatening injuries. He was not listed on the St. Cloud Hospital patient report.
Linda Mayo initially was listed in critical condition, according to the Minnesota State Patrol report. However, she was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning.
Neither Martin nor the passenger in his vehicle was injured.
