GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, police closed down part of Cherry Street because of a live, downed power line.

A male driver struck the light pole and left the scene. Police say he called them a short time later to say he was the driver.

The light fixture and line fell down onto Cherry Street and several police cars and a fire truck responded.

About half a block of Cherry Street was closed off, from the mid-way point of the 1200 block to 13th Avenue south.

A few witnesses stayed at the scene and filled out reports.

Police say there were no injuries reported and the incident is still under investigation. They did not immediately release if the driver will be charged.

Xcel Energy was notified of the downed line and also responded to the scene.
