The Polk County Humane Society is asking for help in treating a dog that may have been hit by a train.
Witnesses report a dog dragging itself near the railroad tracks near Fisher. A man who found the dog claims the back legs of the dog were tied with twine when he found it. The Cenex Store in Fisher which is nearby where the dog was found received calls about a wounded dog lying along the train tracks yesterday.
A Cenex worker says he later received a call from the Burlington Northern track maintenance man, who told them he the found the dog with both of the back legs tied together with a piece of twine. That information has led some, including the Humane Society to believe the dog may have been intentionally placed on the tracks. The dog's injuries include a ripped ear and a fracture to one of it's back hips but he is expected to survive.
The owner of the dog has not come forward. At this time there is not enough information for the Polk County Sheriff's Department to investigate.
