A Warroad High School teacher is on administrative leave as the district investigates an allegation involving a student.
The complaint was made by a student against Warroad science teacher Amy Haataja.
Warroad superintendent Craig Oftedahl told WDAZ Friday that Haataja has been on paid administrative leave since January 15th. He would not talk further about the circumstances surrounding Haataja's suspension.
He also would not tell us if the student in question was a boy or a girl. He said they have not notified parents or other teachers of the reasons behind the leave, because it is a personnel issue and still under investigation by the school district and therefore private under Minnesota law. He said the matter is not being investigated criminally.
He expected the school's investigation into the allegations would be done in the next couple of weeks.
According to Haataja's page on the school website, she teaches physical science, chemistry, and environmental science.
This is her first year teaching at Warroad High School. Before this year she was a part-time teacher at Lake of the Woods.
WDAZ could not reach Haataja for comment tonight.
