Family, friends and people in the community are mourning the loss of a prominent Grand Forks lawyer this evening. 84-year-old Fred Arnason passed away Wednesday from injuries he sustained from a house fire.

He was a well educated, father of seven, and at the wise age of 84, he still made daily trips to his church, Holy Family, a true testament to his faith.

Tom Falck, friend and former co-worker: "I always found him a treat to be around."

Those who knew him say it was their pleasure to be in his company. His oldest son describes him as a kind and supportive father, one who worked hard for his family.

Joel Arason, son: "He was very knowledgeable of the law, he was a good teacher of the law, he wasn't arrogant about it."

As a strong believer in education, he instilled those traits in his 7 children as well.

Falck: "The thing that I admire about him is that he was always a great father."

Joel: "It was very important to him that we further our education in college."

The only one to follow in his footsteps at his father's practice, Joel says his father has taught him all he knows.

Joel: "He was always helpful and compassionate and assisted other attorneys both in the states attorneys office and assisting me in all the different aspects of law that I'd possibly become proficient in, I owe that all to him."

Longtime friend and co-worker, Tom Falck says Arnason always enjoyed talking about the law of course and his wife and kids. His son, Joel says that's one thing that will bring his family comfort in the days to come.

Joel: "He's with mom, she passed away 8 years ago."

Memories, are what the Arnason family will cling to. The strong father figure will always be remembered as the man who was liked by everyone.

Joel: " I don't think anyone would've ever thought poorly of Fred Arnason."

Investigators say the fire at Arnason's house started in the kitchen, and they're still investigating the cause.
