East Grand Forks and Air Force Join Forces

The East Grand Forks city council voted unanimously tonight to join forces with the Grand Forks Air Force Base when it comes to fire protection and hazardous material emergencies.

The East Grand Forks city council voted unanimously tonight to join forces with the Grand Forks Air Force Base when it comes to fire protection and hazardous material emergencies.

The two have had somewhat of an informal agreement in the past when it came to collaborating but officials say the two chiefs got together a while back and decided to make it a more formal arrangement and tonight the council agreed as well.

City Administrator Scott Huizenga says the air force base has some infrastructure capacity that East Grand Forks doesn't and the city has labor resources which the Air Force Base can use.

Huizenga: "There really isn't a down side to it, it really is a win, win to join forces."

City council members say they're excited to move forward.
