Kids, Teachers Excited About New Changes, New School Year

It's the first day of school for Grand Forks students and teachers in grades K through nine. It can be a little hectic but when the bell rings on the first day there is quite a bit of excitement in the air.

Although summer vacation is over many students are excited for new classes, schedules and teachers.

Maia is just one of the many students trying to find classes, lockers and get settled into a new schedule on the first day of classes.

Maia: "I like acting a lot, um I like singing and band. I'm also on the news team."

There are different reasons why each student is excited. The 7th grader at Schroeder Middle School might even want to take my job one day.

Tyrel: "Sometimes I get excited because my mom doesn't let me wear my new school clothes so I get to wear my new school clothes."

Megan: "I like meeting the new kids, meeting up with my friends and just like learning again."

And excitement doesn't just stop with the students. Teachers have been spending weeks on lesson plans and activities for the students.

Amy Rogers, Music Teacher: "I get a new batch of kids so I'm excited and it's fun and I don't know a single soul so we just have fun and it's a great time.

There have also been several changes and updates at Schroeder making it even more fun for students to be back at school.

Amy: "We have a new lunchroom design, we've also been implementing the netbook where the 6th and 7th graders get their own personalized computer device to use."

Students attended an assembly to get pumped up for being back at school and although some students are happy to be back others say it can be short lived.

Maia: "Everyone's excited for like the first week and then after that they're waiting for summer vacation."

Teachers say they are excited about the new updates and changes at the school. Students are just happy to be back with friends.
