Grand Forks residents looking for a bigger container to put their recyclables may soon get their wish.
Right now Grand Forks has a 90 gallon container in which people put their trash and much smaller containers for their recyclables. Proposed changes would make the recycling container the 90 gallon container. Sanitation Manager LeahRae Amundson says this would add capacity and make recycling easier. Customers would also have a choice in the size of garbage can they could use.
Amundson: “And then at two different rates. And so if the customer decides to go with the garbage container and do more recycling they would pay less.”
The Grand Forks City Council is expected to discuss new garbage and recycling rates in September and October. If the new garbage and recycling system is approved residents could see the changes next spring.
