Mello Appears in Court, Bond Set

A Crookston man will be on trial for 2nd degree Murder after a fatal crash in September 2011.

A Crookston man will be on trial for 2nd degree Murder after a fatal crash in September 2011.

23-year-old Ricardo Mello of Crookston appeared in district court on Wednesday to set dates for the trial. He is charged with 2nd degree Murder for killing a man after he allegedly stole a police car in downtown Crookston, then losing control of the vehicle and hitting a pickup killing 78-year-old Eddie Briggs of Thief River Falls.

Mello is being held under a $750,000 bond. His next hearing is September 10th.
