Parents and community members in the north end neighborhood are fundraising in hopes to restore the Wilder Elementary School Playground.

Parents and community members in the north end neighborhood are fundraising in hopes to restore the Wilder Elementary School Playground.

Efforts to raise money began last winter and so far project organizers have raised more than $3,700. The group is trying to raise as much money as possible by September second in order to apply for a grant. The hope is to turn the playground into a natural playscape with hills, boulders, trees, butterfly gardens, creeks, and much more.

Eric Burin, Project Organizer: "Natural playscapes have been known to improve students’ psychological health, physical well-being, creativity, and imagination, academic performance and environmental curiosity. They've also been known to diminish bullying on playgrounds."
