Police have a man in custody who they say is responsible for the murder of a Thief River Falls woman whose body was found near the Red Lake River early Sunday.

Police and volunteers spent Saturday and Sunday searching for 40-year-old Tanya Marie Kazmierczak. Police found her body in the Smiley Township and now they have a murder suspect in custody -- 31-year-old Jedidiah Dean Troxel. Troxel is in the Pennington County Jail.

Police say the hard work from several law enforcement agencies lead to the quick arrest of 31-year-old Jedidiah Dean Troxel of Crookston. He's charged with second degree murder.

Ray Kuznia, Pennington County Sheriff: "We are confident this case is an isolated incident and there is no further alarm for public safety."

Preliminary autopsy reports show Tanya Kazmierczak died from multiple stab wounds and police say her her throat was cut.

Pennington County court documents say a witness saw Tanya Kazmierczak talking to Troxel in his car at around six Saturday morning after a party in Thief River Falls, the report said the two did not attend the party together. She was reported missing later that day.

Police say they also found a pair of boots that Troxel owned that match prints that were found at the crime scene.

Two other witnesses told investigators they saw a car matching the description of

Troxel's car near the river where Kazmierczak's body was found.

Kuznia: “In speaking to the family they would like some time to grieve and we will get a hold of the media at a later time.”

Troxel has not admitted to the murder. Troxel will make his first appearance in court tomorrow morning.
