There was a record number of anglers out on the ice this weekend at the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department's fishing tournament. There were nearly 4,500 people out fishing, and about 140 of them were kids under age 14.
The tournament raised about $100,000 for the fire department. This year that money will go toward a 101 foot aerial truck. The department sold 13,500 tickets this year and is considering selling more next year. Anglers had the chance to win vehicles, trips, and cash.
Jim Moe/Devils Lake Fire Chief: "We went with a full-sized extended cab pick up so that increased the cost a little bit and we upgraded some of the other prizes within all categories also."
Big winners this year were Lori Frith of Devils Lake who won a 2010 Dodge Crew Cab pick-up truck, Jamie Lembke of Grand Forks who won a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up, and Matt Zies of West Fargo who won a 2010 Ford Fusion.
