Mild Winter Causing More Bees this Summer

If you go for a picnic, water the garden or even just go for a walk you may notice more bees buzzing around this time of year. The overabundance of the insects is keeping area stores and pest control agencies busier than usual.

Stores like Home Of Economy have seen wasp and hornet sprays as well as traps flying off the shelves. But after seeing such an increase in the past couple of years managers made sure to order extra to keep the pests at bay.

Owner of Valley Pest Control Mike Estad started getting calls about the bees a month earlier than usual this year and says this is the worst year he has seen. Estad says there may be several reasons we are seeing more bees than usual.

Estad: ”It's because we had such a mild winter and there wasn't much of a kill of any insects and then with the hot, dry summer that we had it's just made things worse.”

Estad says if aerosols and traps don't work you should call pest control agencies because they have other forms of insecticides that could work.
