Drivers are being hit with the biggest one-day jump in gas prices in 18 months, this just as the last real travel weekend of the summer approaches. In Grand Forks the average price of gas jumped 17 cents from just one month ago.

One station had a 15 cent increase in just one day going from three dollars and 74 cents Tuesday to $3.89 on Wednesday, which is what it is now.

The primary cause of the hike is due to a 25 dollar increase in the cost of a barrel of oil over the last month. The holiday weekend likely contributes to the price hike but it's possible hurricane isaac does as well. The jump is so large that some people are avoiding going out of town this weekend, while others are simply not excited to fill up their tank.

Kathleen Mihelich: "We're going to northern Minnesota tomorrow to the boundary waters so I'm not looking forward to filling my tank today."

Gas prices are expected to rise throughout the weekend but the elevated numbers should be short lived.
