A man who escaped custody in Roseau County was apprehended in Grygla, Minnesota last night. This comes after law enforcement thought the man may have been on the Red Lake Reservation.
Kevin Leigh Martin Jr. was in custody for felony theft of a motor vehicle and working on the Minnesota Sentence to Serve program. Martin escaped on August 27th taking a grain truck from Stafford Township and driving it to Grygla. The man was staying in Wannaska according to neighbors and they say they were shocked and worried when they heard Martin had escaped.
The Njaa family lives across the street from where they say Martin was living with his girlfriend five miles south of Wannaska. Njaa says she got phone calls from people who were at Diamond Jim's Bar in Grygla and saw Martin there last night.
Bonnie Njaa, Martin’s neighbor: “After we realized there was a helicopter out and we heard words like FBI and Roseau Police Department and Sheriff then we got a little concerned. There was a lot of anxiety floating around in the neighborhood at that point.”
Martin was returned to the Roseau County Detention Center and the case is still under investigation.
