After months of recruiting and practicing, Devils Lake officially has a roller derby team.

Roller Derby came to Devils Lake thanks to Cando resident Tiffany Roberts and Charity Haugland of McVille. The two teamed up at the end of May to recruit women for the team. They also helped organize an exhibition derby bout during the Devils Run in June featuring skaters from the region. Roberts says the work has paid off, and new players are quickly improving. She says the team's name, "dirty Little Devils" represents not only Devils Lake but also their commitment to the sport.

Roberts: “I think the dirty part, it's a little playful, but also I think, for me it's a connotation that we're not afraid to get our hands dirty and to work hard and play hard.”

The team is always looking for more members. Anyone interested can go to practices on Sunday and Thursday evenings at the Bill Jerome Arena.
