Neighbors and community members are now grieving the loss of 40-year-old Tanya Kazmierczak. Kazmierczak's body was found near the Red Lake River in the Smiley Township on Sunday and although police believe the man responsible for her murder is in custody people in Thief River Falls say it doesn't make it any easier.

Very few people were around Kazmierczak's neighborhood today but those we did talk with say family and friends are distraught and trying to pick up the pieces to this devastating tragedy. Nearly five days have passed since the community learned of Tanya’s murder and as the days go on fear continues to grow. One of Kazmierczak's neighbors even said they were thinking of moving.

Richard Nelson says even though the man believed to be responsible, 31-year-old Jedidiah Dean Troxel is in custody, he’s still using extra caution.

Nelson: "I got my granddaughter up here and I never let her out of my sight. I lock my trailer house now, and I never did that before."

Neighbors say the area is like a ghost town ever since news of Tanya’s death reached the community. Those with loved ones nearby are worried the same thing that happened to Tanya will happen to one of their own.

As those in Thief River try to pick up the pieces in the days to come, they'll keep Kazmierczak's memory and family close to their hearts.

Charles Meyers: "She was a wonderful lady, she had a nice family, 3 kids, but she just got mixed up in the wrong bunch I guess."

Funeral services for Tanya will be held at 10am tomorrow at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
