It's back-to-school week for students in East Grand Forks and police are asking drivers to slow down around area schools.

East Grand Forks public schools start tomorrow and police officers say they've seen drivers speed through areas where children will be crossing the road to get to school. Officers say kids need to remember to use the crosswalks and not cross in the middle of the road and there are also many things drivers can do to keep children safe.

Alex Schilke, East Grand Forks Police Department: “Make sure they use the crosswalks, wear helmets if they bike to school and then when you are driving too in the area make sure you slow down, watch out for kids in the area, they tend to jump out at you sometimes.”

Officers say drivers need to be especially aware of children when driving through parking lots.
