The start of flu season varies from year to year. The Grand Forks Public Health Department will be getting the flu vaccine in a couple weeks.

There will be two forms of flu vaccine available at the health department, a shot and a nasal spray. Health officials say even if you get the shot this early it will last throughout the season. There are several other precautions you can take.

Carolyn Kaltenberg, Registered Nurse: “If you aren't feeling well, you should stay home. If you have a cough you should cover it and probably the hallmark thing is to wash your hands. Hand washing is probably the thing that helps prevent diseases the most.”

The Public Health Department will hold a flu shot clinic at the end of this month.
