Six students who sued UND and state officials over use of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo have decided not to appeal a US District Court judge's dismissal of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in August of 2011 by six students for alleged violations of state and federal civil rights laws. Those students now say they want to "extend an olive branch" to those who fought to keep the nickname. Attorney Carla Fredericks says the students "feel that the lawsuit objective to end the name and logo was met."
