Crookston city employees will get hit with a large increase in their health insurance premiums next year. After a zero percent increase last year city employees are shocked to find out their premiums are about to rise 23%.

The city belongs to a pool of agencies that buy health insurance. It hasn't seen an increase in years and the group gave no reason for this year's huge jump. Not only will city employees be paying more out of pocket but they can be assured that any raises this year will be eaten up by the increased premiums. The city's finance director Angel Hoeffner says she was told to prepare for a rate increase in August but never expected to see what she calls such a big blow. Hoeffner says she's working to make changes to the insurance carrier or policy for employees to get a better rate next year.
