The homeless population continues to grow in North Dakota and some shelters are turning away hundreds of people every month.

Grand Forks is no exception. For the first time in 70 years the Northlands Rescue Mission has a waiting list and has to turn some people away. Some people are worried that Grand Forks will have to take on overflow from other cities as shelters in the Fargo-Moorhead area have been turning away record numbers of people. Shelter officials say the economy and number of people coming from out of state looking for jobs has an impact on growing numbers of homeless people. People at the shelter in Grand Forks are just researching how they could expand and what the costs would be right now so it may be some time before they get a second location or expansion.
