A proposed budget which included some extra funding estimated at 3.17%, was approved last night by the Grand Forks school board.

According to district documents the tax rate is roughly 139 mills which equals out to about $22.60 million for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Superintendent Larry Nybladh and other board members disagreed with the suggestion to reduce the general fund mill levy. They had concerns about reducing the mill at the end of a budget cycle and maintaining a zero percent increase. Property taxes represent a majority of the general fund's local revenue.
