The Bureau of Indian Affairs is taking over the social services program on the Spirit Lake Nation. The decision comes after months of controversy and a week-long BIA review of changes the tribe made to the program.

For people following this story, the BIA takeover is seen as a positive step to protecting tribal children but locals fighting for change on the reservation warn that there's still much work to do. Neither Tribal Chairman Roger Yankton or Social Services Director Mark Little Owl responded to messages asking for a comment on the takeover. Adam Ladwig has more.
