BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Bismarck state Sen. Tracy Potter is
preparing a bid for the Democratic endorsement to run for the U.S.
Senate.
Potter said he is holding a news conference at a Fargo store on
Friday to announce his intentions. Friends said Potter will become
the first declared Democratic candidate for the Senate. Incumbent
Democrat Byron Dorgan isn't seeking re-election.
Republican Gov. John Hoeven and Fargo architect Paul Sorum are
seeking the Republican Senate endorsement.
Potter represents parts of central and western Bismarck. He is
up for re-election to his North Dakota Senate seat this year, and
he could still make the race if Democrats don't pick him to run for
the Washington job.
The 59-year-old Potter is president of the Fort Abraham Lincoln
Foundation in Mandan.
