The North Dakota Highway Patrol has issued more overload fees so far this year than in all of last year.

This year troopers have enforced nearly 1,300 overload violations resulting in more than $2 million in overload fees. That compares to just under $2 million dollars in all of 2011. Most of increases are due to the trucks from the oil fields. The highway patrol's weight enforcement capabilities have been enhanced throughout western North Dakota through the reallocation of existing personnel and resources. Excessive vehicle weights damage road surfaces creating a potential risk for motorists and expensive repairs for taxpayers.
