Health Officials Warn of Obesity Surge

A new report projects that nearly half of adults in the US will be obese in the next 20 years unless there are some changes in dietary and health habits.

A new report projects that nearly half of adults in the US will be obese in the next 20 years unless there are some changes in dietary and health habits.

According to the CDC nearly 36 percent of adults and 17 percent of children are currently obese and those numbers are rising. The report used data from each state to project obesity rates, which in some states could exceed 60 percent by 2030. Local dieticians and trainers say these statistics are surprising but it is becoming increasingly harder for families to have the time to make a healthy meal. Obesity rates have more than doubled among adults in the past 30 years and now dieticians say they are seeing more children than ever with high cholesterol. Doctors say parents should lead by example and if children are exposed to healthy foods over and over again, they will usually start to eat them. Trainers say losing weight all comes down to counting calories and some exercise, such as walking for 30 minutes a day or doing some sort of physical activity for 10 minutes 3 times a day.
