The Polk County Law Enforcement Center is in need of some major renovations but there has been a setback. The more than $2 million project is being rebid after several submitted bids were incomplete.

Once the project gets started it will take at least a year to complete. Polk County officials are hoping to get new bids by October so the project can at least get underway. The building is old and jail space will be converted to office space and storage for equipment and evidence. The building will also get an upgrade to the heating and cooling system, wiring and renovations on the emergency operations center. Law Enforcement officials say the building was built for a different purpose and once the old jail moved out and new jail was built the current space was not being used the way it could be. The County Administrator says rebidding the project could be good because of the time of year and the inside work that needs to be done. The updates will be done in two phases and officials are hoping to have them done by next fall.
