The largest grant ever awarded to Lake Region State College in Devils Lake will help build one of the top ag programs in the nation.
The US Department of Labor awarded nearly three million dollars to the college to develop its "precision agriculture program". The grant will help the school develop a two-year program and renovate the old Tewte implement building which the college will use as a training facility. Doctor Paul Gunderson with the Dakota Precision Ag Center says the new program will be more advanced than most college ag programs. He says it's important to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly changing "precision ag industry." The program should be up and running by next fall. Gunderson hopes the college will ultimately be able to support 100 students in the program at a time.
