It's official - the Ralph Engelstad Arena will keep nearly all of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logos. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem made the announcement this morning during an executive session of the State Board of Higher Education in Bismarck.

The NCAA has backed off its demand for stripping the historic name and logo from the arena; almost everything inside is staying as-is. Originally the NCAA required removing all nickname and logos in the $100 million REA before the end of the year. but now the flooring, carpeting and seating displaying the Sioux logo may be kept until it wears out. NCAA officials are still requiring that the "home of the Fighting Sioux" sign on the outside of the arena be removed as soon as possible.

Once the sign has been removed the Ralph will be an acceptable host site for championship NCAA events and the university will be removed from the list of offending schools deemed to be using hostile or abusive names.
