Some double takes in downtown Fargo today as PETA brought its so called "topless mermaids" to town for a protest against the "killing of fish."

PETA says fish are intelligent animals that feel pain just as humans do. While the mermaids sat at the intersection of Broadway and 2nd Avenue North a lot of onlookers stopped and a radio station handed out free cheeseburgers to passersby. The PETA signs called for "Sea Life, Not SeaFood." Earlier this week, PETA made a stop at a meatpacking plant in Sioux Falls.
