A two-vehicle crash just before noon today at the busy intersection of Demers Avenue and South Washington Street in Grand Forks sent one person to the hospital.

Police say a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Michael Zimniak, 19, of Grand Forks was southbound on South Washington Street when he entered the intersection at Demers Avenue and struck a 2003 Honda Pilot driven by Kristi Arndt, 34, of Grand Forks, who was eastbound on Demers. Zimniak struck the left rear side panel of Arndt's vehicle, causing that vehicle to spin out of control. Zimniak was transported to Altru Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Arndt was not injured.

Witnesses told police that Zimniak entered the intersection on a red light. Police cited him for traffic light disregard.

Traffic was diverted at the intersection for about 20 minutes, police said.

The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Ambulance also responded to the scene.
