Although the prom is still a few months away, it's not too late for girls to start thinking about getting that special dress-especially if they can get it cheaply and help support a good cause. That's just what Prom Dresses For Life is doing this weekend in Devils Lake.
Getting a dress for that special night can be expensive. And for girls who go to more than one prom, that can mean more dresses and more money. But thanks to Prom Dresses For Life, girls in the Devils Lake area can get theirs for a lot less money this year.
Taylor McAllister/Coordinator: "They don't want to be wearing the same dress to all the proms, so we were trying to think of a little less expensive way to get them to get more variety."
Girls can bring their gently used prom dresses to Prairie View Elementary School on Friday from 5 to 9 PM or Saturday from 8 to 9 AM along with a five dollar fee. That money will go to Relay for Life.
Taylor McAllister: "Everybody kind of knows somebody or has known somebody that has had cancer or has cancer at the time, so we're just trying to help."
McAllister says she's hoping the event will raise $500 for Relay. She says she's seen a lot of interest from people wanting to donate their dresses, and she hopes people will also want to buy dresses when they are on sale at the school this Saturday.
Taylor McAllister: "We've also put out a big message, a big note on Facebook, like an events page so it's a different way to try to reach girls around the area."
The dresses will be on sale from 9 to 6 on Saturday. People whose dresses don't sell will be able to pick them up on Sunday from 12 to 3. Any that aren't picked up will be donated to second hand stores.
