Devils Lake city leaders are revisiting a proposal that put a cap on the number of pets residents can own.
Animal lovers rallied against the proposed ordinance at the last city commission meeting but now it's back on the table. City leaders say most animal owners in Devils Lake are responsible owners but that something needs to be done about the few that aren't. City leaders agree that limiting the number of pets you can own isn't the best way to deal with nuisance animals. They tabled that proposal and instead created a committee to come up with a better solution. Committee chair Devils Lake Fire Chief Jim Moe says the original proposal wasn't as thought out as it should have been and limiting animals won't solve the problem. Moe hopes the committee will meet by the middle of the month. He says anyone can offer input to send a letter to the city offices with the care of the dog committee.
