The DNR says half of the eight wildfires in Northwestern Minnesota are out this evening. The rest are smoldering and nearly contained.

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton toured the damage around Karlstad where eleven houses burned to the ground and 20 other structures were destroyed. Dayton says he is impressed by the firefighter and community efforts to save the town. He says he will do what he can to help with restoration. Dayton talked with people who lost their homes in the blaze. He says he was happy to hear that most of them had insurance on their houses. The people in Karlstad say they're extremely thankful for everyone who's stepped up to help. They say they no longer need items but monetary donations are welcome. If you'd like to donate you can send money to the Karlstad City Office at P.O. Box 299, Karlstad, Minnesota 56732 to the care of "fire victim relief."
