A former Grand Forks man convicted of killing his girlfriend in 1991 has been granted parole.
Alvin "Bill" Englehart pleaded guilty in 1992 to killing 60-year-old Shirley Stigal in exchange for a sentence of 38 years in prison. Stigal was found strangled in her bed in the 400 block of 7th Street North in Grand Forks. Englehart appeared before the state parole board in Bismarck yesterday. He will be released to a halfway house in North Dakota in February of 2016 until he is released November 25th of that year.
