A special council meeting was held this evening to discuss city salary pay raises among many other hot topic items. The main reason why the meeting was held is because of the controversial $25,000 raise given to Community and Government Relations Officer Pete Haga.

Tonight's meeting remained strictly informational -- nothing was put to a vote and no one's pay was changed. But many motions to change current procedure were passed and the formula used for pay raise and those who didn't follow it were scrutinized. Motions were made by Gershman and Sande for the council to be notified of all pay raises and for pay raises which are five percent or greater be approved by council excluding those by promotion. Also an ordinance for quarterly salary reports by HR for classified and nonclassified employees will also be drafted by city attorney Howard Swanson.
