Hoping to compete with border states Minnesota and Montana, some Fargo legislative candidates are proposing eliminating the state sales tax on clothing.
District 46 Democratic hopefuls George Sinner, Diane Hill and Lee Myxter say the proposal would encourage businesses and shoppers to stay in North Dakota. If elected the three say they'll fight to eliminate the 5-percent state portion of sales tax on clothing. The local portion for residents in Cass County would remain intact. A similar proposition to eliminate sales tax on clothing entirely was shot down in both 2009 and 2011.
