It may seem fairly calm outside right now but by tomorrow wind gusts could exceed 50 miles per hour in the Red River Valley spawning warnings statewide.

The National Weather Service has issued high-wind alerts throughout the state and by tomorrow winds are expected to tear through the Grand Forks Area. The strongest gusts of wind are expected along and just west of the Red River Valley with winds possibly reaching more than 50 miles per hour in the Devils Lake Basin. Although there were wildfires yesterday and peat fires underground in northwestern Minnesota, meteorologists say fire is not a big concern because of the mixture of wind and rainfall, but that could slow down harvesting efforts. These weather conditions can be dangerous in several different ways. Meteorologists say strong winds can also damage rooftops and power lines, so make sure to be prepared.
