Tonight an entire town in southwestern North Dakota is being evacuated. All residents in Bucyrus have been evacuated and a fire has burned down many if not all of the structures in the town.

Bucyrus is a small town with a population of about 30 people located about 9 miles west of Hettinger.

The fire is spreading though, and is now about five miles west of Hettinger, burning towards Hettinger.

However, Hettinger's Major, Steve Turner, says as of now people are safe and "things are looking pretty good."

He says as to what started the fire, all they know now is it wasn't lightening because the area has had absolutely no rain from the system.

He also said on Hettinger's radio station tonight, "God help us all."

No travel is advised on highway 12 from Reader to Hettinger due to heavy smoke.

Every fire department within 50 to 60 mile radius is on site, helping to fight the fire.
