Leak Found in East Devils Lake Outlet

The Devils Lake East End Outlet, which began operation early this summer, has developed a leak and been shut down for repairs.
The Devils Lake Journal reported Wednesday that the leak was in a large pipe that connects the outlet to the Tolna Coulee.
There was mud and clay on the east side of a concrete terminal structure in the area where it connects with the coulee. The structure was designed to slow down the velocity of water pumped from the lake and prevent erosion.
The $85 million east end outlet, one of three emptying Devils Lake of high water, has a capacity of 350 cubic feet per second.
