The Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby is merging with Johnson Clinic. Those behind the merger say it will help with the recruitment of new doctors. Administrators are hoping to bring in six to nine new doctors, which can be difficult in rural areas. As a result of the merger, staff at Johnson Clinic may have lower health care costs since they will now be under the same health plan as hospital staff. Since the hospital and the clinic will be integrated, patients' charts will now be accessible to all staff.

Jeff Lingerfelt/HAMC CEO: "Access is a problem right now. We don't have enough physicians and mid-levels right now to meet the demand, so we add more providers. People aren't going to have to wait to see the doctor."

The merger is expected to be completed by April 1st.
