Local Grand Forks republicans are optimistic about this years election.

Thursday night, local republicans packed the room during their convention at Phoenix Elementary School. Party member Bev Clayburgh says tonight's turnout is much better then many of the past conventions. She says they are very optimistic this year they will win seats that have been long held by democrats.

"I think because of the antics in Washington DC, there is just a tremendous amount of interest across the country, including North Dakota," Clayburgh said.

The North Dakota State Republican Convention will be held in Grand Forks from March 19th through the 21st.
